Atlantic Hydrogen Alliance meeting

Derek Estabrook, Executive Director of the Atlantic Hydrogen Alliance recently spent 3 days exploring green hydrogen opportunities in the Strait of Canso region of Cape Breton.

Together with Arvind Ramakrishnan and Jennifer Rocard, P.Eng., SCR from Deloitte, Phil Nash and Alexander Fost from Waterford Energy Services Inc., and Martin Thomsen from the County of Richmond, they visited key industrial facilities in the Strait region to explore how they can integrate green hydrogen and its derivatives like ammonia, e-methanol, sustainable aviation fuel, and renewable diesel into their operations.

Their visits included:

A  highlight of the trip was the workshop led by Deloitte's Greenhouse Team at the Friends United Convention Centre in Aulds Cove. This spectacular venue honours all Indigenous North American peoples by celebrating Indigenous culture and heritage, and features Atlantic Canada's largest private collection of Native art.

The Strait of Canso region has tremendous potential to become a green hydrogen hub for both export and domestic uses, and these conversations are laying the groundwork for transformation.
